Large quantities being quietly bought up or sold off during a sideways stretch in which price does not move much. It is regarded as accumulation when it appears in a bottoming zone after a decline, and as distribution when it appears in a topping zone after a rise. Both look like the same sideways movement, so they are hard to tell apart while in progress and are confirmed by which way the range is left. Sideways movement on small timeframes is mostly just noise.
