A place where a zone whose role has reversed overlaps with a gap that has not yet been filled. The view is that a spot where two bases are stacked is one where a reaction is likely. However, only one family of theory gives this combination a name, so the evidence is best read as the thickness of the overlap, with the name kept only as a reference. What to look at is whether a reaction actually appears in the overlapping zone.
