The Core of Trading — Mental Management and Following Principles

Why emotion is fatal

• The market moves in ways that provoke our fear and greed

• Reacting to that provocation always drags toward 'buying high and selling low' — emotion points in the same direction as loss

The three big emotional failures

• Fear (cannot stop out) · Greed (cannot take profit) · Impatience (chasing) — all three overwrite the plan with the mood of the moment

Block it with structure, not willpower

• Emotion is not beaten by willpower — preset criteria (Set & Forget), breakeven stops, and a daily trade-count limit leave no room for interference

• A trading journal exposes repeated emotional mistakes as data and shuts them off

Where people slip

• They lean on willpower with 'next time I will hold back' — what protects is not a resolution but a rule

Success is the result of habit (rules), not willpower. Carry out the principles like a machine.
