What is Correlation Coefficient?

A value between -1 and 1 showing how much two values move together. Near 1 means the same direction and near -1 the opposite direction. A large value does not imply causation, and the relationship can flip depending on the market phase. In particular, the phenomenon in which the correlations of many assets approach 1 at the same time during a crisis undermines diversification.
